Okay, so for those of you who be interested, here's my trip to Japan in a nutshell: The first two days were pretty much just flying, riding in a bus, and collapsing in the hotel. The only real thing of note was that we got to meet our tour guide, Yukari, who was really nice and helpful and seemed to know fun facts about everything in Japan. Oh, and I also found out that the girl who does the amazing papercrafts at the Hetalia comm, dj_mewmew, was in the same tour group as me. Oh how I love weird coincidences like that. :3 After that we took a tour around Tokyo, seeing a temple and the Meiji Shrine, where there was a wedding going on. After that we got to go shopping nearby, and the whole day was very rushed and exhausting. I think it was the most we ever did in one day on the trip. ^_^; The pacing could've been better, concidering how tired most of us still were. And even though we drove past it, we never got to shop in Akihabara Street (pretty much the manga center of Japan- and I don't mind saying that it looked glorious). But the next day we went up Mt. Fuji and did some hiking, and that was pretty relaxing in comparision. It also wasn't as hot and humid up in the mountains, which was nice. (Japan is crazy humid. e_e; I'll never complain about humidity ever again.)
Then we took another plane to Miyazaki, where we received a lot of warm welcomes. They even had a banner and gift bags. It made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside (and made me feel kinda guilty, since America's so different). On the bus ride from the airport we got to see Miyazaki's new movie, 'Ponyo'. It was really cute, and the animation was way awesome, and it's safe to say my love for Miyazaki has been reignited~ Our time in Miyazaki was pretty much just going around to see more shrines and some ancient burial grounds (which looked more like hills than graves). We also got to visit a local high school, which was really neat. I kept bringing my sketchbook with me everywhere, and when I tried doodling I got kind of mobbed. XD;;; But I think they were all just impressed to see an American who could draw in a style they were familiar with.
After that, we all got split into smaller groups and got to stay with some local families for a few days. My family was really, really nice. They insisted my group all sit and relax and wouldn't let us help at all. >> We were all feeling pretty guilty before long. They kept giving us presents too. Apparently their kids had all moved out already- they probably just wanted some children to spoil. Oh well.
We re-grouped two days later, and went to Nagasaki. The day we spent there was definitely the most somber of the trip. We went to the Nagasaki Memorial Museum, which talked about the atom bomb and the effects it had on the city. We even got to talk to a man who had survived it (he spoke surprisingly good English). I was really relieved when he said he didn't feel any bitterness towards Americans... that's always been something that's bothered me. He said that he believed we had no choice, because of how aggressive Japan was back then, and our country did a lot to help after the war. I'm kinda glad- I don't like being thought of my home as a destructive, ruthless nation, even if in recent years we've kinda come off that way. >> Well, Kyoto was next. That was fun- it was like Tokyo, only a little more laid back. I think I prefer the cities in Japan to the countries, even though both are really amazing. We went to a bunch more shrines, and went to a Buddhist temple that had, literally, 1001 life-sized Kannon statues. It was a pretty awe-inspiring sight. They were all so intricate... really cool~ And this time when we went shopping, I was able to find a manga store. Everything's so cheap in comparision to here... I got the NNO volume 10, and the character guide book. There was also a store selling figurines of anime and video game characters- I got my sister a Rikku key chain. ^_^ Nothing I really wanted from it, though, so I just settled for the manga. And by then, our two weeks were up, and we flew home, arriving safe and sound. :3 We almost didn't make the last flight from Chicago to Boston, though. There weren't enough seats for everyone, for some reason, even though we booked ahead for everything. But it worked out in the end, since some of the other passengers didn't show up. I'm happy to be home again- Japan is an amazing country, with so many kind and helpful people, but two weeks was more than enough for me. XD Now, off I go to catch up on all that I've missed. :3 Current Mood: calm

e_e; You'd think my sister being away for the week would result in me getting more time online. Not so. Of course, my laptop's sudden charger failure didn't help... Instead I have to fill in for her at work, on top of studying for finals next week, and my parents are doing their best to keep me out of the house almost every afternoon. *sigh* And on top of that now I'm into Baccano and interested in joining another RP comm called soul_campaign. Admittedly I mostly applied for the comm because I'll actually get a chance to play my Lithuania with a Poland~ My poor Liet-muse is a bit starved for his partner, and this mun seems nice and does a pretty good job with him. ^_^ Quite a few people from SH will be there too, so that's another plus~ And Baccano... aw geeze, it's just so much love~ ♥ Firo is the cutest gang leader ever, so bright-eyed and innocent~ Miria and Isaac are such loveable spazzes~ And Jacuzzi Splot has just about the coolest name ever. But all the characters are awesome. Even the crazy ones. Especially the crazy ones. Claire/Chane FTW~ ...Plus my preference for pedo!ships seems to be running strong too, since I kinda have a soft spot for Eve/Luck. But- But he won't age, so she can just catch up to him in a few years! e_e;;;Tags: baccano, time management fail Current Mood: busy

Hee, my family got a new dog this weekend~ She's a beautiful golden retriever, two years old. We got her from a local shelter- she's really sweet, if a little extra-excitable and likes jumping on people. And it's really nice having a dog in the house again~ The cats are a little afraid of her, but she's only been playful with them, so I'm sure they'll get used to each other one day. And as for the internet, I've also been thinking about who to pick up at mall_rp. Stuff's calmed down enough that I think I can handle another comm, so that's good. ^_^ I made a Dear_mun post to try and pick which character to use... I'm leaning towards Misa at the moment, just because she's familiar and it's a new place. Also argh, blatant favoritism. e_e; Also, whee~ Anime Boston next weekend~ I might be able to pull together a maid!Hungary outfit from Hetalia in time, but that'll be it for cosplaying. Heh, hopefully tips will be good at work the next two weeks... I'm gonna need money. >_> The worst thing about working for family is that they can make you work for free if need be.
